Adopt A Garden
Adopt A Garden is a community initiative to recover uncultivated areas of Scontrone and use them to grow and harvest grains, fruits and vegetables native to the area. This will further maintain the life and vitality of the village and especially teach younger generations the value and skill of growing their own food. It also creates occupational opportunities and spurs economic growth within the town, Abruzzo and Scontrone's partners.
Scontrone is an ideal place to develop a market for authentic Italian products grown naturally, and make them available to tourists. The ultimate goal is to create a "Piccolo Mondo Antico" or "Miniature World of Antiquity " where visitors can partake in each phase of product growth (planting, cultivating, harvesting, etc.) and most of all in the enjoyment of consuming it!
Main Objectives
The main objectives of the project are as follows:
- Create employment and spur economic growth
- Engage the elderly members of the village to cultivate and pass on their knowledge to younger generations
- Create authentic products to sell to both the local and tourist markets
- Reviltalize the occupation of which Scontrone was founded - farming.
- Collaborate with the University of Aquila, The Professional State Institute of Agriculture and the Environment of Avezzano, The State Office of Forrests of Castel di Sangro and more
- Cultivate a network of European partners for product exchange
- Revitalize the historic city center
- Create a Scontrone brand of quality and excellence
